17th edition Oct.. 24th - 29th 2017
It's autumn, and once again, it’s time for "Blue Copenhagen".
From Tuesday Oct. 24th until Sunday 29th Blues is the name of the game all over
the city, and we’re inviting all blues fans to visit the city's many clubs and venues for a
week of world class international blues, as well as some of the best homegrown blues.
The festival ambition is to cover all blues style variations in the best possible way, and to
present The Blues in a fine balance between tradition and new expressions.
So, as always, you'll find seasoned blues veterans performing alongside some talented
young artists, who’ll carry the torch and it’s blue flame into the future.

Also this year the festival opens with a music film at Cinemateket. Jimi Hendrix - 1942-70 - is widely recognized as one of the greatest guitarists
of all times. This November he could have celebrated his 75 years birthday,
and we pay tribute to him and his music by showing ”A Film About Jimi Hendrix”.
The film was made in 1973, just 3 years after Hendrix's untimely death in 1970.
It gives a most interesting description of the legend, who had, and still has, such
a great impact on the music scene, particularly on blues- and rock guitarists.
This early rocumentary is worth seeing for Jimi's performances from Ready Steady
Go Show, Monterey, Woodstock, The Marquee Club, Fillmore East and Isle of Wight.
Besides, you'll hear what his contemporaries have to say about him, Eric Clapton,
Mitch Mitchell, Lou Reed, Mick Jagger, Pete Townsend, Buddy Miles and others.
Don't miss a rare opportunity to see this great icon and his awesome music.
Another great music anniversary worth mentioning is
John Lee Hooker's 100th birthday on August 22nd this year.
He was born and raised in Tutwiler, Mississippi, ran away from home
at age 14 and ended up in Detroit. He electrified his Delta blues and
developed his famous 'country boogie' beat', which eventually earned
him the royal title "King of the Boogie".
“The Hook” made his first recording, "Boogie Chillun”, in 1948, which
sold a million copies.!
The British Rhythm'n'Blues scene was heavily influenced by John Lee's
music, and the 'British Invasion' in the 60'ies contributed strongly to the
popularity and proliferation of the Blues in the years that followed.
Must see international acts this year:
