Welcome to
COPENHAGEN BLUES FESTIVAL
12th edition Sept. 26th - 30th 2012
From Sept. 26th to 30th the Blues once again sounds all over the city.
This is our 12th season, and we invite all blues fans to visit the city's clubs and venues for 5 days of world class international and homegrown blues.
The festival's musical ambition is to find a good balance between the traditional and the new expressions of the Blues, and to cover all style variations
in the best possible way. As always you'll find seasoned blues veterans alongside younger
talents, who'll carry the torch into the future.
PROGRAMME
This year's festival programme offers 55 concerts at 17 venues around town.
Most of our international acts are to be found downtown at the central venues
Mojo and Huset, and at Amager Bio. The time schedule for each night offers
fine opportunities to attend at least two exiting acts per day, or even more, if
you count the afternoon shows as well.
See full programme under Programme in the top left menu or cllick the picture
of the printed catalogue to the right. View or download the catalogue (in Danish)
at the Programme page, where you can also find articles and photos for each
concert and artist - just click the concert name in the programme.
Note: several concerts have direct links to on-line purchase of tickets.
In this year's programme you'll find world class acts like
David Lindley's world blues, Walter Trout and Wolf Mail's
guitar blues at Amager Bio, Mem Shannon's funky New
Orleans, Eddie Campbell's classic Chicago, Dave Herrero's
Texas-goes-to-Chicgo and Mighty Mo Rodgers' funky soul
and R'n'B at Huset, James Harman's Westcoast and Shawn
Pittman's Texas blues at Mojo, and the two acoustic aces Steve
James and David 'Boxcar' Gates.
Also, the city is crawling with Danish blues top acts in all forms, shapes and sizes,
from duos like H.P. Lange & Troels Jensen, Mike Andersen & Jens Kristian Dam,
Risager & Balsgaard, to trios like Esben Just Trio, H.P. Lange & Delta Connection,
the Swedish rising star Daniel Norgren, to combos and bigger bands like Delta Blues
Band, Troels Jensen & The Healers, Big Mama, Mamas Blues Joint, Thorbjørn Risager,
Jes Holtsø & Morten Wittrock Band, and a bunch of younger cats like The Blues Overdrive,
Tutweiler, The Fried Okra Band, Tobacco, The Mojo Makers and many more.
Blues Award
The festival's annual Blues Award ceremony takes place on Wednesday night,
at Huset's Café, just before the double concert with Jes Holtsø/Morten Wittrock
and Dave Herrero & The Hero Brothers Band from Chicago.
Come and see for yourself, who wins the award "Danish Blues Act 2012"
Find more about the award in the menu top left.
Afternoon blues
The festival’s collaboration with the city's biggest shopping center,
Roedovre Centrum, runs in it's 7th year with 9 short, afternoon blues
concerts at the main stage, the 'Festplads' with room for 8-900 people.
Admittance is free !
Come out and see and hear Dave Herrero, Mighty Mo Rodgers,
Eddie C Campbell, Mem Shannon & the Membership Band, Shawn
Pittman, Steve James, David 'Boxcar' Gates, Peter Nande & Svente
Sjöblom and Poorboy Poul.
Most acts can also be heard at night at the venues
around town during the festival week. We encourage
the afternoon crowds to come out and get some more.
Saturday the community house Prismen once again offers a Brunch & Blues function with
nice eat and drink, the spicey blues music delivered by a new very exciting jazz-blues trio
Sunday afternoon offers a special church event, a Blues sermon at Grundtvig's Church on
the theme: 'Black Pearls - Women in Blues', very appropiately to be ended with a blues
concert with the Danish singer Lene Stroyer and her 7-piece Mamas Blues Joint.
And, as always, the blues fest closes with the traditional acoustic Roots'n'Blues Jam at Mojo.
Enjoy the festival !
